Yuba County, CA: Man Killed in Gravel Truck Accident on Highway 70
Yuba County, California (February 16, 2018): A local California resident was tragically killed in a horrific gravel truck accident on a Highway 70 on-ramp in Olivehurst, CA early Monday afternoon, February 12, 2018. The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Nicholas Bishop, of Fairfield, CA.
Bishop was standing on the shoulder of the on-ramp, next to his disabled Dodge Ram, when, just after 1:00 p.m., a 2016 Western Star semi-trailer landed on top of him after flipping over while turning left onto the on-ramp. Bishop was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-trailer, 54-year-old Christine N. Straub, was transported by paramedics to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, CA. Her injuries are described as moderate.
Though the incident caused gravel to spill from the trailer, hitting the Dodge Ram, the unidentified 17-year-old passenger inside the vehicle did not report suffering any physical injuries. The crash remains under an ongoing investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
