Yuba City, CA – Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 70
Yuba City, California (October 24, 2018) – A 70-year-old North Highlands man was killed in a multi-car collision Tuesday night in Yuba City, according to local police. The accident occurred at approximately 8:00 pm Tuesday, October 23rd, on Highway 70 between Chandler Road and Sparrow Lane, about 10 miles north of Marysville. At this time, no detailed information concerning the people involved in the fatal collision has been revealed.
According to investigators, the 70-year-old man was driving a GMC southbound on Highway 70 when for indeterminate reasons; he drifted into the oncoming lane and was hit by three vehicles heading northbound. The three oncoming vehicles in the northbound lanes swerved to avoid the GMC, but they ultimately ended up colliding. As a result of the GMC crashing in the southbound lane, a Dodge in the northbound lane slammed into a power pole. Additionally, a Toyota ended up in a nearby field while a Hyundai stopped following the crash. The occupants of the three other cars reportedly sustained injuries upon impact of the collision. Sometime later, police and firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the accident were they discovered the 70-year-old man died of the injuries he sustained upon impact of the collision. Paramedics transported the Hyundai driver and a Dodge passenger to a local hospital for more in-depth treatment. Emergency crews shut down Highway 70 between Chandler Road and Sparrow Lane for three hours following the fatal accident. Officials do not believe drugs or alcohol to be factors in the crash.
An investigation by the California Highway Patrol is currently underway. As more evidence continues to surface, more information will be released to public sources.
