Willits, CA – Head-on Truck Accident Causes Severe Injuries
Willits, CA (October 1, 2018) – In Willits, a head-on truck accident took place that led to injuries in a truck driver. The accident happened along Highway 101 and took the lives of two people on Saturday afternoon, September 29.
The victim who was seriously injured was identified as 76-year-old Robert Maffia. At the time of the accident, Maffia had been operating a Peterbilt tractor south on Highway 101 when he suddenly collided with a Dodge Ram.
The 41-year-old woman in the pickup lost control of her vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic around 1:40 p.m. near Reynolds Highway.
The tractor-trailer was hauling lumber and hit the side of the Dodge. From there, the pickup truck spun out on the roadway and became engulfed in flames.
Maffia was treated for her injuries. The woman had a 13-year-old passenger with her and they both died at the scene of the accident.
The accident continues to be investigated at this time.
