Based on initial reports, there is still much to be explained from this collision. While we know that the crash took place in an intersection we do not know whether a driver might have run a stop sign or stop light. We do not know if speed or distracted driving was a factor. Authorities will seek to answer these questions as they look at the accident and investigate further.
Once a cause has been determined, the driver who was not at fault will have the option of bringing a personal injury lawsuit against the other driver. In California, such claims must be brought within two years of the accident. The injured driver is entitled to recover for losses, including medical bills and pain and suffering.
