Ventura County, CA: Two People Injured in Simi Valley Motorcycle Crash

Ventura County, California (March 8, 2018): Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Simi Valley, CA early Monday morning, March 5, 2018. While some details remain limited, the incident reportedly unfolded just before 4:00 a.m. when an officer on patrol, Officer Dan Kalbacher, began pursuit of a motorcycle that he estimated to be traveling at 70 miles per hour.

The motorcycle, operated by 31-year-old Jeremy Smith, failed to stop for the officer and continued to flee down Alamo Street, reaching speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour, until it crashed into a concrete fence at Yosemite Avenue. Both Smith and his passenger, 28-year-old Randi Horne, were ejected from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. Smith has reportedly been arrested and booked into the Ventura County jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.
