Pixley, CA – DUI Crash Kills Three Family Members On Hwy 99
Pixley, CA (October 18, 2018) – According to local authorities, 22-year-old Brenda Garcia of Corcoran, is being charged with six felonies for driving under the influence of alcohol and killing three family members in a violent head-on collision. The incident transpired at approximately 7:30 pm Sunday, October 14th.
Based on the initial police report, sisters Eva Lopez and Maria Rivas, as well as Riva’s daughter, were heading home to Northridge after visiting family in Modesto. The California Highway Patrol reported that the siblings were in the area of Pixley when a drunk driver barreled down Highway 99 into oncoming traffic crashing head-on into their vehicle. All three people were killed by the wrong way driver, 22-year-old Brenda Garcia survived. Sometime later, paramedics and the police were dispatched to the scene of the accident, where all three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
First responders reported that the driver was so intoxicated she couldn’t tell police how she got on the freeway going the wrong way. Brenda Garcia sustained major injuries upon impact and could be hospitalized for up to 60 days. On Tuesday, the Tulare County District Attorney Office filed six felony charges against Garcia, including gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence causing injury, and Special allegations of blood alcohol content of at least .15 including great bodily injury.
Garcia’s bail was set at $150,000 and her next court date is set for November 9th, 2018.
