Spring Valley, CA – Fatal DUI Crash Takes One Life, Injures Others
Spring Valley, CA (September 22, 2018) – One person died and two others were injured in a fatal DUI crash that took place in Spring Valley. The accident happened on September 17.
Police said that the woman who lost her life was identified as Melanie Alexandra Feliciano. She was reportedly sitting on the center console between a driver and passenger in a 1999 Mercedes-Bez when it overturned on the highway. The driver reportedly lost control for reasons that were not known and swerved into the center divider, striking it. Witnesses watched as the sedan landed upside-down and rolled onto the opposite side of the road.
Paramedics rushed to the scene around 1:50 p.m., where they found that Feliciano was trapped inside the wreckage. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where she passed away from her injuries around 3:09 p.m.
The driver and front-seat passenger fled the scene following the accident. The driver was identified as 27-year-old Rene Ruiz and the passenger was identified as a 22-year-old La Mesa woman. They were later found hiding in a canyon close to the crash site. Ruiz was arrested for driving while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run, and more.

The collision is still being investigated at this time. Police have confirmed that the accident was caused by drunk driving, which is a very serious crime under California law.
