Scotts Valley, CA – Wrong-Way Driver Causes Crash Hwy 17
Scotts Valley, CA (October 18, 2018) – CHP in Santa Cruz are reporting that an impaired 47-year-old man from Redwood City, struck another driver on the freeway portion of Highway 17 through Scotts Valley. The incident took place in the southbound lanes on Highway 17 at approximately 11:44 am on October 15, 2018.
According to The California Highway Patrol, an impaired driver in a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, struck a driver in a 2014 Mazda MZ6. The unidentified 47-year-old man was reportedly driving under the influence of drugs while driving in Scotts Valley, northbound, in southbound lanes on Highway 17. The driver of the Jetta, for indeterminate reasons, violently struck the 2014 Mazda almost head-on.
Police and firefighters were dispatched to the scene where the victim was able to seek medical assistance. First responders report an incredible aftermath of a mangled vehicle when they arrived on scene. The events leading up to the accident were not immediately established. The DUI driver was charged and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail following this horrific collision.
