Santa Barbara, CA – DUI Crash on Highway 1 Kills One Individual
Santa Barbara, CA (September 23, 2018) – A DUI crash led to the death of a 73-year-old man who has since been identified as Alfredo Martinez on Highway 1. The accident happened on September 21.
Martinez had been driving his Nissan southbound on the highway when he was suddenly struck head-on by a northbound Honda Civic. The elderly man suffered fatal trauma due to the accident and, when first responders arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda was identified by police as 35-year-old Bryan Charette. He had been traveling at a high rate of speed and making unsafe movements on the road on over the double yellow lines before the crash.
Charlette’s blood alcohol content was not released, but it was determined that he had been driving drunk at the time. He will now face felony DUI manslaughter charges once he is released from the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
