Pedestrian Injuries in California
We would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Teresa Jacob. Losing a loved one is never easy, especially when it could have been prevented. We wish a speedy recovery to the second victim in this accident as well.
Pedestrians attempting to cross California roadways are especially susceptible to injuries because they are vulnerable to all of the traffic around them. Distracted driving, drunk driving, and speeding are the three main causes of pedestrian injuries and pedestrian fatalities in California. Even when crossing the street at the appropriate time and in a clearly marked crosswalk, pedestrians have to be vigilant about their surroundings in order to keep from getting hurt. On average, a pedestrian is injured in a traffic accident every eight minutes and killed every 111 minutes.
If you have been injured by a negligent driver while you were crossing the road or walking through a parking lot then you may be entitled to financial compensation for such damages as medical bills, physical therapy bills, lost wages from missing work, and pain and suffering. Under California law, the negligent party is able to be held responsible for these things.
