San Diego, CA – Victim Hit & Killed After Truck Collision on I-805 at SR 52 Ramp
San Diego, CA (July 30, 2023) – The northbound lanes of Interstate 805 at Kearny Mesa in San Diego were closed for several hours on Friday after a man was hit and killed.
A Freightliner semi-truck and an Acura sedan collided on Interstate 805 southbound at State Route 52.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the Freightliner driver moved his truck to the median between the two lanes of traffic on I-805. At the same time, the Acura driver stopped on the right shoulder.
CHP Public Information Officer Jesse Matias said in a press statement that the Acura’s driver left his vehicle to speak with the semi-truck driver, and when he attempted to get back into his car, he was hit by a white Ford pickup truck at the SR 52 off-ramp.
The victim, a 62-year-old man from San Diego, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The CHP also reported that the pick-up truck’s driver stayed at the site of the accident.
Authorities said they don’t know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crashes at this time. The County Medical Examiner has requested a toxicology report, and the CHP is handling the ongoing investigation.
Our deepest condolences go out to the deceased man’s family.
