San Diego, CA: One Dead in Fatal Head-On Collision
San Diego, California (February 19, 2018): A head-on collision on 5 Freeway early Saturday morning, February 17, 2018, has left one dead and another facing serious injuries. The California Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the crash and details remain limited while the investigation is underway.
The crash occurred just before 4:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of 5 Freeway, near Carmel Mountain Road. 22-year-old Jeremiah Gundry was reportedly driving south in the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a white Toyota truck. Gundry was pronounced dead by emergency personnel at the scene.
The driver of the truck has not been identified. He was transported by emergency medical services to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA for treatment of serious injuries. No updates on his condition have been provided at this time.
