San Diego, CA – Marine Killed in Plane Crash Near Miramar Station
San Diego, CA (August 25, 2023) – A plane crashed Thursday night near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, killing the pilot onboard.
An F/A-18 Hornet crashed in an uninhabited region east of Interstate 15 around 11:55 p.m., according to base officials. It has been stated that the collision happened on public land.
San Diego rescue workers were on the scene of the crash until the early morning hours, putting out the flames from the crashed jet, according to Mónica Muoz, media services manager for San Diego Fire Department. The SAR operation also included the use of a helicopter.
Authorities confirmed that the pilot, a U.S. Marine, had died in the accident. The name of the man has not been made public, though there is still an active inquiry into what happened.
