San Diego, CA – Girl on Paddle Board Hit & Killed By Watercraft in De Anza Cove at Mission Bay
San Diego, CA (July 31, 2023) – On Saturday, July 29, at Mission Bay in San Diego, a 12-year-old girl was killed after her paddleboard collided with a personal watercraft.
Lt. Adam Sharki of the San Diego Police Department said that the crash happened at 2:00 p.m. in De Anza Cove.
Officers said that an 18-year-old man from Bellflower was operating a personal watercraft that collided with the child while she was paddle boarding.
First responders took over CPR once the victim was brought to shore. She was rushed to the hospital, but Sharki said she died at a San Diego medical center.
A no-wake zone restricts boat speeds in portions of De Anza Cove to 5 mph. According to authorities, alcohol is not thought to have played a role in the collision, though officials are still investigating and looking into possible charges.
Our deepest condolences are extended to the deceased victim and her family.
