Riverside County, CA: Bus Driver Injured in Coachella Two-Vehicle Crash
Riverside County, California (March 6, 2018): Authorities are conducting an active investigation into a two-vehicle collision in Coachella, CA on Friday morning, March 2, 2018. Only limited information about the incident has been made available while the investigation remains ongoing.
Officials believe the collision happened just before 8:00 a.m. when a 2009 Infinity G37 swerved into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a school bus near the intersection of Calhoun Street and Avenue 48 in Coachella. While the precise cause of the crash has not been officially determined, authorities believe, based on witness reports, that the driver of the Infinity, 29-year-old Edgar Lopez, may have been speeding just prior to the crash. The force of the collision caused the school bus to flip on its side, seriously injuring the driver, 34-year-old Elizabeth Lozano.
Lozano was transported from the scene to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment. Lopez was also injured in the crash and was reportedly taken to the same hospital. While the total number of individuals involved or injured in the accident is unknown, reports indicate that three children on the bus managed to avoid injury, but at least one adult passenger suffered minor injuries.
