Riverside, CA – Ethel Granados, Fatima Granados Killed in Wrong Way DUI Crash
Riverside, CA (August 10, 2018) – The two victims of a wrong way DUI crash have been identified by police. Ethel Granados, 74, and Fatima Granados, 52, were traveling on the 91 Freeway just before 2:00 am Friday morning. At that time, a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway collided head-on with the Granados’s vehicle.
Just a few minutes prior to the collision, police received a call regarding the wrong way vehicle. Unfortunately, this collision occurred before officers could apprehend the wrong way driver. Both Ethel and Fatima died at the scene while a male passenger sustained serious injuries. The passenger is hospitalized in unknown condition.
The driver of the other vehicle has been charged with felony DUI. The driver has not been identified and the crash remains under investigation.
Southern California DUI Accidents
Our thoughts are with the family of Ethel and Fatima Granados.
No one deserves to be the victim of a drunk driver. Sadly, impaired drivers account for several tragic crashes in California each year. In 2013 and 2014, over 800 people were killed statewide in DUI crashes. Additionally, many more suffered injuries at the hands of drunk drivers.
This crash, unfortunately, adds to the statistics. Drunk driving is a form of reckless driving that often supports an award of special damages known as punitive damages. Punitive damages may be awarded in a personal injury cases for especially reckless or intentional behavior leading to injuries. Punitive damages are awarded above and beyond regular damages such as medical bills and pain and suffering and are intended to punish the at fault person for bad behavior.
