Nipomo, CA – Drunk Driver Arrested After Fatal Car Accident
Nipomo, CA (December 02, 2018) – A man driving a black Honda Accord the wrong way down Thompson Avenue on Saturday night at about 10:30 caused the death of one pedestrian and injuries to another.
According to initial police reports, 55-year-old Maricela Marquez, of Santa Maria was driving south on Thompson Avenue in her black BMW X5 when the Honda Accord, coming from the opposite direction, suddenly veered into Marquez’s lane and caused a head-on collision between the two cars. The impact resulted in the death of the passenger in the BMW, who has since been identified as 82-year-old Maria Medina who passed somewhere between the scene of the accident and the hospital. Marquez received treatment for her medical injuries which are believed to be minor. No information was released regarding the other occupants of the BMW.
The driver of the Accord, 23-year-old Edgar Morales, of Santa Maria also sustained serious injuries during the accident. He was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria where he received medical treatment. The local authorities strongly suspect that drugs and/or alcohol were involved in the crash and placed Morales under arrest before he left the hospital.
The investigation into the exact cause of the crash is still ongoing.
