Nicolaus, CA – Man Killed in Crash with Tractor-Trailer on Highway 99
Nicolaus, CA (August 12, 2018) – A man was killed when his RV collided with a tractor-trailer Saturday in Nicolaus. The accident happened just after 2:00 pm on Highway 99. The RV, which was towing a minivan, was traveling on the four-lane undivided highway when it attempted to make a left turn from the northbound lanes. As the RV was turning, it was T-boned by an oncoming tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer was towing a double trailer and was coming from the southbound lanes of the highway.
The force of the collision ejected the RV driver as he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was found lying in the roadway by emergency officials and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to UC Davis Hospital with unspecified injuries.
The tractor-trailer was hauling a load of peaches at the time of the wreck. The peaches and their crates spilled out onto the highway. Traffic was obstructed for over two hours before any lanes of Highway 99 were re-opened for motorists. An alternate route was set up by authorities.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating this crash. It is not clear at this time whether the tractor-trailer driver will be charged for their role in the collision. No further details are available.
California Tractor-Trailer Accidents
We are saddened to hear of the fatality in this Highway 99 crash.
Tractor trailer accidents are devastating. Although tractor-trailers and semi trucks are heavily regulated by the government, many trucking companies try to skirt regulations. This includes failing to properly maintain equipment or employing unqualified drivers. It also includes drivers operating a truck on insufficient sleep. Naturally, these conditions can often cause an accident.
When you have been hurt in a truck accident, you need to get all of the facts. Research must be done to determine first if the tractor-trailer driver was at fault. If negligence is proven, then all of the surrounding circumstances of the crash must be analyzed. A strong case could be made that the trucking company is also responsible for the crash if they violated any of the standard safety protocols that they are required to follow.
