Montclair, CA – Child Fatality Near Vernon Middle School
Montclair, CA (September 9, 2018) – A child fatality took place after a pedestrian accident near a Vernon Middle School. The incident happened on Thursday, September 6 at around 8 a.m.
The boy, who was identified as 11-year-old John Macias, was walking to the middle school on San Bernardino Street when he was struck and killed. The child was crossing the street at the time when a pickup truck came driving along and didn’t stop at the stop sign. The vehicle struck the juvenile.
John Macias suffered severe head injuries and was taken to the hospital at the time. Police say that he was walking in a marked crosswalk when the accident occurred. Later at the hospital, he passed away.
The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene of the accident to cooperate with police.
