Merced County, CA – Pedestrian Struck By Trailer
Merced County, CA (October 17, 2018) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that took place at 8:19 this morning near the area of Looney Road and Monte Vista Avenue involving a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer.
Sources say that the truck was hauling a green trailer when it lost control and flipped over. This knocked the attached trailer loose causing it to skid across the road and into a pedestrian on the side of the roadway. The Merced County Sheriff Department along with the California Fire Department arrived at the scene where the victim was transported to the nearest hospital for the treatment of several severe injuries.
The names of the truck driver and the pedestrian have not yet been released as the investigation into this accident is still underway.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the victim of this accident as well as their family. Accidents involving pedestrians can be some of the worst by far.
Pedestrian involved accidents are frequently due to driver negligence or distracted driving. Injuries sustained can often be catastrophic because the pedestrian is completely vulnerable to a fast-moving vehicle that weighs several tons. It is important to remember that pedestrians have the right of way whenever they are in a marked or unmarked crosswalk, parking lot, school zone, or other designated areas.
If you or someone close to you has been injured as a pedestrian you have rights that you may not even be aware of and that need to be protected.
