When somebody is accused of driving under the influence, there is a good chance that this person is going to be found liable in the event of the accident. This is most often the case due to the fact that they acted in gross negligence, putting everyone’s lives at risk on the roadways. If a family member chooses to, they can bring a claim for compensation through what is known as a wrongful death suit on behalf of their loved ones. From there, you may be eligible for damages that are owed to you by a party who acted with negligence.
Many people find themselves in a position of financial and emotional strain after they have had to say goodbye to somebody they love following an accident. Because of this, you might be able to bring a claim for damages like lost wages, medical bills, funeral costs, and more. In some DUI accident cases, you might even be able to receive punitive damages, which hold the defendant responsible for their actions and are meant to deter others from this behavior.
