Los Angeles, CA – LASD Trainee Dies After Wrong-Way Crash at Whittier Training Run
Los Angeles, CA (August 1, 2023) – One of the LASD trainees seriously injured in a wrong-way crash in the Whittier area passed away on Friday, according to the Los Angeles PD.
The man was pronounced dead at the UCLA Medical Center in Westwood. Loved ones reported that the victim appeared to be recovering, but the severity of his injuries resulted in his death last week.
The incident initially occurred when an SUV plowed into a group of police recruits during a training run, seriously injuring several victims. The driver, a 22-year-old man, was initially detained after the wrong-way crash but later released. Officials say the man fell asleep at the wheel prior to the collision.
No charges have yet been filed in connection with the incident.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s loved ones.
