Long Beach, CA – Two Killed, Three Airlifted After Boat Fire on Marina Dr in Alamitos Bay
Long Beach, CA (August 5, 2023) – On Saturday, August 5, a boat fire in Long Beach claimed the lives of two people and left three others in critical condition.
According to the Long Beach Fire Department, two women in their 60s were killed. Two men and a woman, also in their 60s, were hospitalized with serious burn injuries.
At around 5:15 p.m., firefighters were called to Alamitos Bay for the boat fire in the 200 block of Marina Drive. The injured were flown to nearby hospitals via helicopters, while the two deceased victims were pronounced at the scene.
Authorities said the 35-foot watercraft caught fire at a fuel dock near Fire Station 21.
Officials believe the victims may have filled their boat with gas when the fire broke out, though an investigation remains active.
As of Saturday evening, investigators have not determined what caused the blaze.
