Lakeside, CA – Fatal Drunk Driving Accidents Takes Life of Jogger
Lakeside, CA (August 29, 2018) – A jogger was struck and killed in a fatal drunk driving accident that took place in Lakeside on Monday evening. Police have identified the jogger from the accident.
Police arrived at the scene around 6:40 p.m. near Riverford Road around the area of Highway 67. The jogger, 41-year-old Susana Gotell, was running on the north side of the roadway when she was suddenly struck by a 2017 Chevy pickup truck.
The truck was traveling east when it drifted off the south side of the roadway, then crashing into a chain-link fence.
The driver of the truck was identified as 46-year-old Michael Woodfill. Once he struck the fence, he veered back onto the roadway and struck Gotell. Gotell was immediately rushed to the hospital but passed away due to her injuries. The truck went down an embankment and overturned.
Woodfill was taken into custody for driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
