Irvine, CA – Motorcyclist killed in Collision on 405 Freeway
IRVINE, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2018) — According to the California Highway Patrol, Two motorcyclists were killed after a series of collisions that happened Friday morning on the southbound Interstate 405 Freeway near the Irvine Spectrum Center.
Officials confirmed the crash transpired at approximately 7:23 am when a motorcyclist reportedly struck the center divider of the freeway. The rider was thrown from his Honda NC 700 bike and struck by an oncoming Volkswagen Jetta in the HOV lane. Leon Cruz, of Santa Ana, was operating a Nissan Frontier when the accident took place and reportedly swerved to avoid the accident. A driver of a pickup truck stopped, exited the vehicle and began to direct traffic away from the initial crash. Meanwhile, a 33-year-old motorist was driving a 2915 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle when the rider attempted to bypass the vehicles being redirected they collided into the back of the pickup truck that was stopped behind the Jetta. Paramedics rushed to the scene and attempted to revive the down motorcyclists in the roadway but sadly, at least one of the motorcyclists was pronounced dead at the scene. The Orange County Coroner was called to the crash site and police are investigating the crash.
