Fresno, CA (November 15, 2018) – On Wednesday afternoon a 29-year-old pedestrian walking in the area of Blackstone Avenue and Garland Avenue was struck by a Cadillac Escalade and dragged for 25 feet.
The incident occurred at about 2:45 in the afternoon. The victim and her friend were headed south on foot when they entered the pedestrian crossing zone on Garland Avenue. Paramedics and police quickly arrived on the scene and the victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. The driver remained at the scene and has been very cooperative with local law enforcement.
As of this time, no arrests have been made and no further information is available on either party involved. The police investigation into what caused this terrible accident is still underway.
Pedestrian Accidents in California
According to data recently compiled by the California Department of Public Health, one-fifth (21%) of all fatalities resulting from car accidents are pedestrians. Between 2007 and 2013, the total number of injuries brought about by car accidents in the state of California was 1,668,082. Of those injuries, pedestrians accounted for 95,758 people in that grand total. Not surprisingly, over 98% of these injuries occurred in urban areas with the rural parts of California accounting for less than 2% of all pedestrian injuries.
