Fresno, CA – 70-Year-Old Killed in Drunk Driving Pedestrian Accident
Fresno, CA (February 24, 2019) – On Thursday evening, February 21, a 70-year-old named Ram Bhatia was killed in a drunk driving pedestrian accident that took place in the area of Friant and Copper River Roads.
At the time, Bhatia had been out for a walk when he was struck near the intersection by a black BMW. Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 6:24 p.m.
When he was found by paramedics, Bhatia had sustained critical injuries. Paramedics attempted to save his life but, unfortunately, he was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives said that the driver fled the scene immediately after striking Bhatia. It took some time, but police were able to identify the drunk driver as Matthew Hiram Chenot. He was arrested for felony hit-and-run, gross vehicular manslaughter, and more.
