Delano, CA – Orlando Tapia Killed in Accident on Highway 99
Delano, CA – (December 17, 2018) – The Kern County Coroner has identified the man who was killed Friday night on Highway 99 as 19-year-old Orlando Tapia, of Delano. The accident took place just before 11 pm near Highway 155.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Tapia was driving a Nissan traveling southbound on Highway 99 when he was involved in a collision with a Mazda and a Volvo. The force of the impact stalled the Mazda in the No. 1 lane while the Nissan and the Volvo pulled over to the right shoulder. The driver of the Mazda got out of the vehicle and was standing in the center median. Meanwhile, Tapia left his vehicle and walked towards the center median to talk to the driver of the Mazda. It was then that an oncoming Toyota noticed the disabled Mazda and attempted to avoid hitting it but ended up striking Tapia and the Mazda driver. Emergency crews rushed to the crash site and discovered Tapia had suffered fatal injuries. Paramedics transported the driver of the Mazda to a local hospital for treatment. The current condition of the driver was immediately unknown.
As of now, this accident is under investigation.
