Chino, CA – Sheriff’s Deputy Killed in Fatal DUI Accident in Chino
Chino, CA (February 18, 2019) – 28-year-old Nicholas O’Loughlin, a Sheriff’s deputy for San Bernardino County, was killed on Sunday morning in a collision involving a drunk driver. The fatal DUI accident took place around 12:30 a.m.
Police responded to Euclid and Edison Avenues where O’Loughlin was struck by a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Yijie Mao. The officer had been off-duty at the time of the accident.
Allegedly, the officer was headed southbound on Euclid Avenue when his vehicle was suddenly struck by Mao. Police arrived at the scene and tragically pronounced him deceased due to the serious trauma from the accident.
Police believe that Mao had been under the influence at the time of the accident. He was arrested on DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
At this time, the investigation into the matter continues.
