Bakersfield, CA – Deadly Two-Car Collision at California & Chester Aves
Bakersfield, CA (August 20, 2023) – One person was killed, and another was seriously injured in a two-car accident on California Avenue on Thursday night.
Two drivers collided near the corner of California Avenue and Chester Avenue, prompting police to respond.
Initial reports indicate that the wreck occurred between a passenger sedan heading north on Chester and a truck heading west on California.
Both the sedan’s driver and passenger were severely injured when police and medical personnel arrived at the site. The two victims were taken by ambulance to the hospital.
The passenger was declared dead at the hospital, and the driver’s condition is still serious, according to officers with the Bakersfield PD.
Police said the other driver suffered only minor injuries and was taken to Kern Medical for additional evaluation.
Bakersfield investigators added that the truck’s driver was later taken into custody for driving under the influence, among other charges.
The investigation remains in progress at this time. Witnesses were asked to contact the Bakersfield Police Department if they had any additional information.
